LiveLife Pharmacies proudly support Movember

Movember is an annual charity initiative that sees the sprouting of moustaches on guys around the globe during November, in a united movement for men’s health.

Committing their top lip for 30 hairy days these men (known as Mo Bros), effectively become walking, talking billboards and through their Mo growing efforts, raise vital funds and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

Movember is now recognised as one of the world’s leading non-government funders of research and care programs for men’s health issues.

Men are typically more indifferent towards their health when compared to the efforts of women who proactively manage and publicly address their health concerns. As a result, levels of awareness, understanding and funding support for men’s health issues lag significantly behind that of other causes.

Using the moustache as a catalyst for conversation, Movember hopes to bring about change by providing men the opportunity to learn and talk about their health more openly and by encouraging men to take action.

Movember is committed to investing funds in initiatives that support prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health in the following program areas:

•awareness and education

•living with and beyond cancer

•staying mentally healthy, living with and beyond mental illness

•research

Cancer Council raises funds to help support the many thousands of women in Australia and their families who are affected by breast and gynaecological cancers. With your help, Cancer Council can provide vital research, patient support, information for health care professionals and patients, prevention, treatment and advocacy. Every day in Australia around 50 women are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer. Cancer is a disease of the body’s building blocks – or cells. Cancer happens when genes become damaged and the cells begin to grow abnormally and out of control. Cancer isn’t one single disease, but a range of diseases in which abnormal cells multiply and spread out of control affecting a range of body organs. Breast and gynaecological cancers unfortunately touch many lives, either directly or through the experience of family and friends. Pink merchandise is available to purchase in LiveLife Pharmacies. The money raised will help the Cancer Council fight cancer through prevention programs, support services and world-class cancer research.

LiveLife Pharmacies proudly support R U OK? Day

New research conducted by the R U OK? Foundation shows that more than 90 per cent of Australians feel they should ask friends who are struggling ‘are you ok?’, no matter how though the conversation. The annual R U OK? Day is taking place Thursday, 11th September and aims to inspire the nation to speak out and help their mates.

‘This ‘R U OK? Day, the foundation is encouraging Australians not only to start a conversation that counts with someone who might be feeling overwhelmed, lonely or stressed, but also to be ready to give their time, show empathy, listen without judgement and help their peers identify possible steps. Also make sure you follow up.’

National Asthma Awareness Week 2014

National Asthma Awareness week runs from 1st – 7th September.

During this week it is an ideal time to speak with your LiveLife pharmacist and assess your current medications or if you suspect you may have asthma.

It’s important that your asthma is well managed so that you can live your life to the full and do all the activities you want to. The aim of asthma management is to achieve best control.

Having ‘severe’ asthma means that it is difficult to treat, but doesn’t mean that you can’t take control, with the right medications, lifestyle and support. Someone with ‘severe’ asthma can live as well as someone with mild asthma – it’s all in the level of control.
